Merry Christmas!

It's Christmas Eve (just). Christmas here in New Zealand is never quite the same as the quintessential white Christmas we sometimes had in Seattle. But it's still beautiful. Though Santa on a surfboard....

It really saddens me how much the true meaning of Christmas has been lost in society. The consumerist attitude we have towards Christmas leads to spending binges on things we neither need nor care for. I can't go anywhere without hearing "All I want for Christmas is you" or whatever that one is about last christmas I gave you my heart. Jesus and his birth have been all but lost from Christmas and the season surrounding it. It absolutely breaks my heart.

Our Lord came down from heaven. He humbled himself as a helpless child in a lowly stable so that we might be saved. It seems like such an ingratitude to have turned the celebration of God's birth as man into a material-centred holiday of greed and selfishness. Jesus, a meek and humble child, was born to give himself selflessly and unreservedly for our salvation. Christmas is the second-most beautiful holiday of the year, as we are able to look back to that night, some 2000 years ago, when a saviour was born to us.

Lest we ever forget that Jesus, our Lord and our God, is the reason for the season

Sorry this is incoherently written and brief, but I'm tired. I'll edit it in the morning. Night night.
