Fourth of July Daybook
Happy Independence Day, Yankees!!!!! I know most of you Kiwis have no interest whatsoever in our celebrations, but it is fun! First you go to a parade and they throw Tootsie Rolls at you, and in the evening you go to downtown Seattle and get corn on the cob and carmel apples and watch the fireworks.... oh... I miss the Fourth of July.
Outside my window.....
Drizzle, drizzle and more drizzle.
I am thankful for.....
- Jane Austen. I know you're long dead, my dear Miss Austen, but you continue to inspire me with your intricately woven tales, your cheerful analysis of life's peculiarities and your good grammar. I don't mean to nitpick, but seriously- edit, people! What is it with you're and your? Or their, they're and there? Apples, plural, does not have an apostrophe! And why, oh why, must people say 'must of' or 'could of' or 'should of'- it's have!!!!!!! (am I being hypocritical? No doubt my grammar on here is dreadful half the time anyway. A thousand apologies!)
I am thinking about......
Fourth of July 2001. It's the first one I vividly remember. I was five years old and I lost my first tooth in a carmel apple. It was a good night.
Learning all the time.......
Had a driving lesson today. Driving makes me nervous. Why can't we just walk everywhere?.... with baskets of daisies on our arms and straw bonnets in our hair. Ooh that reminds me, would anyone (once summer manifests) care to have a picnic in a strawberry field somewhere? They had one in Emma and I'm just dying to sit in some lush grass and eat strawberries in the sun. I miss summer.
On my nightstand......
- The Bible. :-)
- I finished Emma. I'm so sad now. It's like a part of me is missing. Beautiful novel. Must read Mansfield Park now- it's the only Austen I haven't read or seen- I don't even know the storyline!
I am creating......
Mess. Lots of it. Ah well, when it's for the sake of mental productivity, I must let my inner clean-freak ignore the stacks of paper everywhere.
I am working on.......
Not writing blog post when I'm meant to be doing work..... I'm not doing very well thus far......
I am praying.....
As often as I can.
I am hearing......
Wimbledon.
One of my favourite things.....
Fine-tipped sharpies when one is bored after four solid hours of reading about Ocean Iron Fertilisation, a topic which became tedious many hours prior and has slowly begun the process of disintegrating all remaining brain cells. Anyway- fine-tipped sharpies! A girl's best friend for drawing Catholicness all over her arms.
Plans for the rest of the week......
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming until I can actually go swimming.
Quote of the moment.....
"Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday"
A picture(s) I am sharing with you.......
It is with much chagrin and sheepishness that I admit I did not take this photo myself, but rather asked Katrina's permission to steal it, edit it and now post it on my own blog. Is that wrong?
Oh well, at least the fact that it's a miraculous medal negates my own impropriety. Isn't it beautiful?

P.S.
One sees what I mean?
I did give you permission to steal it, so it's not stealing. And I think it now looks even nicer now :)
ReplyDeleteI never ate or saw a tootsie roll the whole time I was in New Zealand! Do they sell tootsie rolls in NZ?
ReplyDeleteI must of forgotten already, it's been so many day's since I've been their (ooops! I mean they're!)
kelly
Kelly- you scared me for a moment! I was honestly panicking when I saw the 'must of'. My mind was racing, trying to figure out what had gone wrong. Kelly, the English major. Kelly, whose blog I delight in reading for its grammatical perfection (okay, not the only reason I read it....). If moving back to America can do this to Kelly, what is to become of the world?
DeleteThen I got the joke. A tad slow on the uptake I guess. I blame the jetlag. Thanks for a laugh!
No, sadly there are no tootsie rolls in New Zealand. It's probably for the best actually- if there were I'd likely be 200 pounds by now!
